Novak Raises A Good Point

Doubles tennis gets next to no love in terms of TV time, but some of the most entertaining points can be found in doubles matches. Check out this point from over the weekend in Key Biscayne. This adds a little bit of love to my love/hate opinion on Djokovic.

Michelob Light Really Gets The Competitive Juices Flowing

More from my Michelob Light commercial series. This time the winner of the mixed doubles match wins the Michelob Light! I feel like the next commercial is going to have to feature sailing.

Ode de Nadal

If the Nadal-Federer US Open Final comes to fruiition, this music video appearance alone gives Nadal the upper hand.

Miserable end to a miserable summer of tennis for this bro last night...

WAGS of US Open

As Snipes confided in an offline conversation, the US Open is a bittersweet event. Tournament for tournament, it is possibly the best. New York. Night matches. Progressive tennis outfits. Showmanship. Heineken. While the epic men's quarterfinal Thursday at Wimby is probably the best day of tennis in a year, the Flushing Fortnight gets it done. Period.

However, the US Open also signals Labor Day and an end to the definition of epic: summer. Look it up.

There is no better way to whet a tennis fan's appetite on day one of the Open than a look at the wives and girlfriends of our tennis bros. Check it out here

FYI, Jelena Ristic - pictured below - gets my nod despite the dubious achievement of being Novak Choke-a-vich's girl. If he redeems and reacquaints himself with New Yorkers this year, I will credit her.

Sweet Employment Gigs: Chris Fowler

This dude has it pretty good. Lets track his calendar year. As the well known host of College Gameday on ESPN, Fowler kicks it at some sweet bowl games in early January. He then hops a plane down to the Southern Hemisphere to cover the Australian Open. This marks the start of his hosting duties for all four tennis Grand Slam events and as far as I can tell is also the beginning of a pretty amazing 3.5 month vacation. The French Open doesn't start until late May and I am guessing that he's not chilling at ESPN headquarters in Bristol all that time. My guess? He takes the slow route from Oz to Roland Garros. Maybe by boat? Maybe an around-the-world plane ticket and he alternates direction each year?

From Paris it's on to London and Wimby. London in the summer time is 100% awesome as Snipes and C9 can attest and Wimbledon is such an epic sporting event. Chris then wraps up his tennis tour under the lights of NYC in September. Wimbledon is the greatest championship, but the US Open is the best tennis tournament. So entertaining, under the lights, Labor Day weekend, America, Heinekens, Fed in black, Roddick firing it up, Djokovic pissing everyone off, Ivanovic dressed to kill, Nadal battling on battered knees.

The US Open Championship ends just in time for NCAA football season and Fowler gets seriously busy. Thursday nights and all day Saturday. But he travels to the biggest games, is a hero among the college set and hosts a great show. Not too shabby. He definitely earns is 3.5 months off in the Spring during the Fall.

Maybe "Sweet Employment Gigs" will become a slightly regular feature? I mean, I will be looking for a full time gig 12 months from now and any/all ideas are welcome.

Really Dudes?

Andre Agassi took a carefree fundraising event and used it as a nice opportunity to embarrass himself. Agassi and Rafael Nadal were teamed up against Pete Sampras and Roger Federer (stacked team) in the "Hit for Haiti," a fundraiser for the earthquake victims of Haiti. Things seemed to be real feel good until Agassi clearly took exception to something Pete did. See below:

Come on Andre. I've always been a fan, but it wasn't always that easy for Pete to get under your skin. I'm starting to think that Andre might be a big time weirdo. Drug use, weaves and now getting so upset by Pete imitating you that you have to resort to childish personal stuff? I know Pete has tons of cash and should probably tip more but who gives a shit? These people didn't pay to come hear you mow Pete's lawn and make things feel incredibly awkward. Agassi looked legitimately flustered for whatever reason (check out 3:19 on). Pete handled it pretty well even with the serve hit at Andre. After Andre blowing up my spot, I'd have a pretty tough time not making fun of him for being married to a man. Especially when my wife is Veronica Vaughn.

Our Sloppy Savior

Andy Roddick's knee might be done. Or is it his shoulder this time? Serena's display of unparalled lady-like sportsmanship at the US Open sunk the Williams family's tennis armada. Former World Amateur champ Donald Young has not and will not come close to living up to his professional hype. Fret not fans of American tennis, for I give to you on this day the unlikely man who, along with object of TCD affection Melanie Oudin, will help resurrect American tennis.

Step aside Justin Gimelstob (right), you were a joke anyway. Readers might better recognize the dude on the left if he had a pair of dungus stix on his shoulder and 50 Tom College's in his hand. According to ESPN.com, Bode Miller will enter the US Open National Playoff in order to earn a spot in Flushing come September where Bode will be able to compete and party at a "New York City" level.

P.S. - Interesting sub-information acquired while doing the research necessary for this story: allegedly Justin Gimelstob once called Anna Kournikova "a douche" on a radio show. In the same interview he predicted that he would hit the radiant Russian in her midsection with a serve in an upcoming exhibition match and that he wanted his younger brother to "nail her." Since when do bros call babes douches? Classy (hilarious), Justin.

Australian Open Hilarity

Aussies love to get rowdy at their Open. Listen closely at around 13 seconds for a classic line from The Hangover.
