Vindication

All the years of hard work. All the sacrifice. The visits to IT. The cultivation of a rabid fan base. Chasing leads, breaking stories. Spreading blame, offering praise and dropping knowledge. TCD has arrived. We're breaking out of the blogosphere, off of your computer screen and onto your local movie screen before we straight up invade your 50 inch flat screen in your living room.

BOOM!

The scoop from the New Yorker: In theaters on November 5 (and on Magnolia On Demand October 1) is Client 9, Alex Gibney's much-discussed documentary on the fall of Eliot Spitzer. For the movie, Gibney had impressive access to Spitzer's allies and enemies, plus — amazingly! — the former New York governor himself.

Thanks for the look, Uncle Jesse.

Mowing Lawns

For those of you on the inside of the inside joke of "mowing lawns," you'll find this funny. Others will not (you're not missing a whole lot). This was taken from the police beat of the local paper from my home town. So many lawn mowings. Exciting stuff:

Mowed over

6/9 at 6:08 p.m. Officers responded to a disturbance on Foreside Road where neighbors were reportedly outside arguing about cutting the grass. One neighbor had reportedly been mowing the other's lawn for some time, but had stopped. When he was approached about it, the lawn mowing neighbor allegedly suggested the owner mow her own lawn. An argument reportedly ensued. Police were able to restore the peace.

Lawrence's (Not So) Little Secret

It's tough when your childhood hero has a fall from grace. And another. And another. Growing up a rabid Giants fan, LT and the epic late '80s/early '90s GMEN defense of which he was the unquestioned leader were Sunday fixtures at my house. I had the full LT uniform get-up (LT earring not included). The only multiplication table I knew above 6x6 was 7x8. 56. In fact, when I was in third grade my pops was playing in a golf outing at Ridgewood Country Club and called me after his round. He told me there was someone who wanted to talk to me, and this gruff voice got on the horn and asked me what 7x8 equaled. When I asked if it was really LT and he said yes I actually started to cry. Pathetic. And so began my sordid history with the phone numbers of Giant defensive superstars. But that's a different story for a different post...probably by Snipes.

In absolutely no way does TCD condone the actions of Mr. Taylor anywhere, except on the football field (many years later my father admitted that the round of golf he played with LT at Ridgewood was actually a total disaster and quite unpleasant). Anyone who requires the details of his latest and greatest transgression, read here. It really is a pretty sordid tale. I hope they book the dude who is pimping 16 year old girls as well.

LT's proclivity for ladies of the night is nothing new, though. And if there is a bright spot in this dark tale it is the rehashing of bits of LT's June 2006 60 Minutes interview where he discussed the intersection of pro football and the oldest profession on earth.

Priceless LT quote one, referring to an incident where the Houston Oilers sent prostitutes to his hotel room the night before the GMEN probably demolished the Oilers in order to make sure LT got little sleep:

"Knock on the door, you open the door, and you got two beautiful women sitting there (saying) 'We're for you!' And I'm like, 'You're in the right place."

Priceless LT quote two requires some stage-setting. LT once had to call a locksmith to unbind him after he reported to a team meeting in handcuffs.

"A couple of ladies that were trying out some new equipment they had. You know? And I just happened to, and they just didn't happen to have the key."

So much, yet so little, goes unsaid in that last gem.

Really Dudes?

Andre Agassi took a carefree fundraising event and used it as a nice opportunity to embarrass himself. Agassi and Rafael Nadal were teamed up against Pete Sampras and Roger Federer (stacked team) in the "Hit for Haiti," a fundraiser for the earthquake victims of Haiti. Things seemed to be real feel good until Agassi clearly took exception to something Pete did. See below:

Come on Andre. I've always been a fan, but it wasn't always that easy for Pete to get under your skin. I'm starting to think that Andre might be a big time weirdo. Drug use, weaves and now getting so upset by Pete imitating you that you have to resort to childish personal stuff? I know Pete has tons of cash and should probably tip more but who gives a shit? These people didn't pay to come hear you mow Pete's lawn and make things feel incredibly awkward. Agassi looked legitimately flustered for whatever reason (check out 3:19 on). Pete handled it pretty well even with the serve hit at Andre. After Andre blowing up my spot, I'd have a pretty tough time not making fun of him for being married to a man. Especially when my wife is Veronica Vaughn.
