Walk Like A Penguin

As I was walking back to my apartment tonight, I found myself negotiating this particularly icy/sloppy section of a sidewalk and almost instinctively, in my head said, "walk like a penguin." Where the hell did that come from? Well, it was some cheap catch-line in a commercial that used to ALWAYS be on The Weather Channel (which I watched a lot of) during the glorious early-mid '90s. Apparently an otherwise forgettable commercial buried deep in my memory bank was triggered today by that line via walking on ice. Nice marketing by Safe Step Ice Melter. Commercial below.

Heighties hockey hits

This video is so 80s (and possibly early 90s) in so many ways. First of all, the NHL is cracking down on the types of hits that are the epicenter of this clip. Then there are the jerseys, teams, equipment, players, and the fact that the Islanders seem to be portrayed as a quality franchise. But it is the soundtrack that really seals the deal. As always. 90's Texas High School Football

I get some ideas for my material from a local radio show (98.5 The Sports Hub, T&R) and this morning (not sure why, I forget the segue) they were talking about the 1994 Texas High School Football State Championship. Seriously. Anyway they played the audio from the announcers at the end of the game and it's PURE GOLD. We all know that high school football is huge down there, and these guys are proof of that. You will soon see that they pull for East Plano, they may not be the most professional but I promise that they deliver the goods:
