Elm City #18!

New Haven, truly a jewel of the eastern seaboard, ranks 18th on the latest list of the FBI's most dangerous cities. The Lou, as in St. Louis, took the top spot, while the Dirty Have barely beat out it's I-91 neighbor Hartford by a spot. The most disappointing thing about this is that New Haven is allegedly more dangerous than Newark, NJ. I operate in the middle of New Haven and refuse to step foot in Newark (well, really New Jersey generally except when I have to visit Phil) so I am not sure what this all means.

But what I do know is that New Haven is a pretty sweet place to live (at least one TCD fan who also happens to be my roommate - weird coincidence - would agree) and also ranks on the following important lists:

Birthplace of the hamburger
First (and best?) pizza in the US
#3 ranked college hockey team in the land

Burglary Attempt of the Year

We're not celebrating burglary, we're celebrating how stupid this guy's idea was and how funny he looked when he got caught.

Some guy in Oregon broke into the outside bathroom attached to the museum of rocks and minerals and tried to cut a hole in the wall to access the interior. His plan was to get in and steal $250,000 in gold. Unfortunately, he tripped a security device and ended up outside where a police dog bit him while he was lying on the ground in a camouflage suit made to look like a bush.

Worst part for him, the hole he was cutting in the bathroom only led to the elevator shaft, with an elevator car blocking it.

TCD Field Analyst Witnesses Stunning Daytime Jewelry Heist

I am not making this up.

Last night I head over to Logan Airport here in Boston to pick up TCD Field Analyst and extreme bro, Will McNeal. On the ride in, Will recounted the wild events for me. Basically, as he was getting close to the airport, two cars came ripping right at him down the WRONG side of the highway. He and his buddy pulled off onto the shoulder to avoid an epic crash and the two cars just sped off. As they arrived to return their rental car, they could see that the rental car employees were really shaken and there was broken glass lying around. They soon discovered that men in masks had pulled up in those cars that almost just killed them, beat the crap out of some poor guy and stolen over $500,000 in jewels.

We checked the local Salt Lake City news site last night and here's their take:

Police say two jewelry dealers were targeted by a group of robbers at Salt Lake International Airport Thursday afternoon. It was a dramatic string of events that ended with $500,000 worth of jewels stolen.

An airport spokeswoman says two jewelry dealers were getting ready to board a flight out of town and were returning their rental car. They were carrying a large bag full of jewelry.

Suddenly, two Toyota Camrys pulled up, going the wrong way, and at least five masked men jumped out. They were armed with a knife and took off with the jewels.

Some car rental employees tried to stop the heist and started fighting with the thieves, but the thieves got away.
