Twisted humor battles the human spirit for the purpose of economic gain in the mid-2000s in what could be the greatest scam of all time? Talk about a classic story line. Oscar written all over it.
Savetoby.com is a website set up in March 2005 that sought to raise $50,000 from readers in order to prevent the death and culinary consumption of a rabbit named Toby. Not for a foundation, not for a cure, not for a marathon, not for anything other than the life of a rabbit that probably cost $5. Talk about gains from trade. The website even includes recipes that were under consideration. I use "sought to raise" and "were under consideration" because...wait for it...Toby was saved by the people at bored.com who raised the final amounts to prevent the pet rabbit's ultimate demise.
Is this the greatest scam of all time? Is this guy/girl/group just utterly brilliant? Was is a bluff?
