"Tidal Wave" is not a synonym for "Tsunami". In other words, that budget 7th grade Science Fair project Crash did at Concord where he divided a home aquarium tank in two with a piece of removable plywood, hastily placed mini log cabins to resemble a town on one half, filled the other half with water, pulled the divider, watched the water destroy the town and called it a Tidal Wave was a total Fugazi. A fake. A misrepresentation.
But tidal waves themselves are real, which was Crash's greater point. They're called Tidal Bores and they occur in about 100 rivers worldwide dependent on the uniformity of the depth of the river at its estuary, the local tidal range, and the time of year.
They're pretty rad in action. Check out one of America's own Bore's and its Stand Up Shredding Crew. Learn more about the video here. Tunes are so Alaskan. Thanks to CT for the look.
Nerd out reading some Nat Geo on tidal bores here.
