Global Warming

The photos say it all. The three photos are from 1941, 1950 and 2004 and show the Muir and Riggs Glaciers in Alaska. Click the image to view in full.

  1. Retreat of intertidal glaciers like the Muir is not caused by global warming. It is caused by underwater topography. Basically, the moraine falls off a cliff and seawater comes in contact with the glacier face which melts it back. Global warming causes a lot of things, but this is not one of them.

  2. That is really helpful, thank you. My post raises an interesting point then: Most of the public do not truly understand global warming and its implications (at least it's clear that I don't). We only see what politicians argue about in the public eye and make our conclusions based off of that (dangerous I know). Thanks anonymous.
