Retreat of intertidal glaciers like the Muir is not caused by global warming. It is caused by underwater topography. Basically, the moraine falls off a cliff and seawater comes in contact with the glacier face which melts it back. Global warming causes a lot of things, but this is not one of them.
That is really helpful, thank you. My post raises an interesting point then: Most of the public do not truly understand global warming and its implications (at least it's clear that I don't). We only see what politicians argue about in the public eye and make our conclusions based off of that (dangerous I know). Thanks anonymous.
