The Harder They Come, The Harder They Fall - Jimmy Cliff

I'm a few months late on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but needed to get this on the blog and I'm new to the TCD staff, so I have an excuse (this time). Jimmy Cliff is the kind of artist who's songs can cheer you up in the worst of times and make you feel even better when you're already smooth sailing (preferably with a Dark & Stormy). What is amazing about Jimmy is even at 62 years, his voice is as smooth as ever and he is still writing new, inspiring songs. He was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, and took the award with amazing shades on in style.

Check out his recent performance on NPRs Tiny Desk Concerts Here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=128383652.

If you have never watched the 1972 classic, The Harder They Come, I would highly recommend it. The movie stars Jimmy as Ivan Martin, a young Jamaican country boy coming to Kingston to try to make it in the exploding reggae scene. He ends up getting involved in the dark underbelly of Kingston and you will have to watch the movie to see what happens. Here Jimmy is performing The Harder They Come, with some footage from the classic movie. Amazing thing is almost 40 years later, the same story continues to unfold in Jamaica, this time with Christopher "Dudus" Coke...I guess its still true..The Harder They Come, The Harder the Fall, One and All...
