As in WD-40. Out of the blue today I received an email about its history, properties and uses. I feel like I've seen this one before? Who knows. Anyway, the whole email was impossibly long, but some of the highlights are worth a read.
History: The product is a result of the search for a rust preventative solvent (water displacement, i.e., WD) and degreaser to protect missile parts. WD-40 was created in 1953 by three technicians at the San Diego Rocket Chemical Company on their fortieth formulation (i.e., 40)
Property: The secret ingredient? Fish oil. Seriously.
Uses: The email lists 50. Here are my Top 10.
Keeps flies off cows.
Removes tomato stains from clothing.
Camouflages scratches in ceramic and marble floors.
Gives a children's playground gym slide a shine for a super fast slide.
Restores and cleans roof racks on vehicles.
Keeps bathroom mirror from fogging.
Removes all traces of duct tape.
Relieves arthritis pain if applied to joints.
Spray a little on live bait or lures to prevent the one that got away from getting away. Apparently fish love the stuff. I am guessing it has something to do with the whole fish oil thing.
Use it for fire ant bites. It takes the sting away immediately and stops the itch.
