I need sun block even in May, lesson learned...

The combination of record high temperature and a serious lack of drinkable water in South Boston this Sunday made for a great excuse to enjoy some outdoor cocktails NOT bottled in the Boston area. I decided on the Seaport area in hopes that a nice breeze off the water would relieve some of the agony I was feeling from the massive sunburn on my back. There are a couple options in the area but we went with the Atlantic Beer Garden.

ABG is a fairly new place and they definitely take advantage of their location with ample outdoor seating. They have a back deck right over the water that has limited seating and fills up early, as well as a rooftop patio with ample room. The deck was full and you can’t order food to the roof (although our waitress said they may be changing that) so we sat out in the front patio. The views are limited out there but they had a couple big umbrellas’ set up which with my sun burn was a welcomed sight.

It was our server's first day which I learned when I ordered the French Dip sandwich and she looked at me like I was from Mars, but we had a pretty large group and overall she handled it like a champ. Due to the water munsoning they had no water at the bar but despite that set-back the meal was great and the drinks were plenty cold thanks to store-bought ice. If you’re a fan of a little extra kick in your Bloody Mary, they make an exceptional one. While the seating out front wasn’t ideal the meal and atmosphere was good and I give the front patio a definite passing grade. Stay tuned for a future rundown of the roof deck patio at the ABG…
