Is it time to stop pretending militias aren't just domestic terrorist groups?

Yeah, probably. If you've seen Michael Moore's documentary "Bowling for Columbine" (check it for free on Hulu.com if you haven't) I'm not really talking about a gun club - a pack of numbskull, gun-toters from up north somewhere who just want to get drunk and shoot at stuff - I'm talking about groups with a political or religious agenda.

Last week, the Feds nabbed nine crazies from a group - I'd prefer not to have to type their name - that explicitly stated that it wanted to incite an anti-government uprising by murdering law enforcement officers. It actually gets worse. They then planned to set up IEDs (improvised explosive devices - like those used by insurgents in Iraq) to kill others at the funeral for the officers.

All nine people face the charges of seditious conspiracy, attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence. In addition, Mr. Stone and one of his sons, David Brian Stone Jr., has been charged with teaching the use of explosive materials.

It's comforting to know that these guys were captured before anyone was injured or killed and that the charges against them will likely result in serious jail time. However, there's a certain amount of discomfort simply knowing that more people like them populate the United States. I think they'd like to know that their actions - even if failed - give me the heebie jeebies and isn't that exactly what terrorist groups want to do? I would argue yes.

Pretty cool that an undercover FBI agent infiltrated their group for over 8 months and gathered the necessary evidence to make the arrests.
