Solar Bike Sheds in Tokyo: Great Concept, Could it Work Here?
Sanyo just built two (hopefully the first two of many) solar powered bike sheds in Tokyo. Essentially, the panels on the roof change electric bikes that are hooked up to the charging station and also power batteries that store additional juice for later use. The bikes are electric but can be pedaled once they lose power. The idea is that by providing convenient and easy to use electric bikes to citizens, they might cut down on congestion and pollution. I'm a fan of the concept and wonder if we're ready for something like this. Anyone know of good bike sharing programs out there that are working now? Montreal has a good one but what about us?
