The Destructive Dog

Some of you know - as loyal readers of this blog - that I got the idea for The Coughing Dog and wrote our first several posts one night when I was up all night with my sick dog. Otis is a nice guy, but he's prone to troublemaking and in his mischief sometimes makes himself sick and when he's sick and in my apartment without me he sometimes is destructive. Below is a quick photo I snapped when I walked in today (mind you I ran home several hours early in an effort to keep the damage to a minimum.)

What's not evident in the photo is that he destroyed all of the blinds in my living room in a desperate attempt to get outside before pooping everywhere. P.S. Mission NOT accomplished but bless his heart he does at least have a sense of right and wrong. He also broke a picture frame, my lamp and pretty much made my bedroom a shoes-on only situation.

So once again we find ourselves at that moment where I'm contemplating what it means to be a dog owner and once again, for those of you out there thinking about getting a new best friend, I feel obligated to issue a stern warning. If you don't mind rushing home from work on an extremely busy day, blowing off a couple of deadlines and interspersing poop clean-up with the rest of your day job responsibilities then great, go get a dog. If you don't mind caring for a creature who is GUARANTEED NOT TO learn from this experience then great, go get a dog.

Lastly, to anyone out there who I may have pissed off at some point or another, take solace in the fact that I'm on my way to my bedroom to clean shit off the carpet and later to the hardware store to replace all of my blinds.

  1. Ahh, that sucks. Been there several times but for me the positives always outweigh the negatives.
