Being John Daly Review

I was one of the 7 people to tune in to the program last night. That number might be lower next week. The program is a 30 minute advertisement for Marlboro and his clothing line, Loudmouth pants - Golf Channel even shows the real advertisements for Loudmouth during commercial breaks. To begin, there was an inadequate amount of time spent on his past: No shaking over puts, shots of him ripping brew-has or stories about gambling and women. Lets be honest, most of us wanted to see a little more of the savage John Daly and less of the spiritual "I'm changing my ways," Daly. The rest of the episode focused on John getting an exemption to the Sony Open, in Hawaii, and him driving his huge hangout bus to Cali. to practice with some buddies - buddies he definitely used to rock the party with. A funny moment was when he and his foursome were on the first tee discussing "teeing up" double vodka cocktails while joking that John had to drink a Diet Coke. Triggers. Following the round, the group went to BBQ outside the bus where everyone but John drank - John soberly strummed his mandolin and sang about pain. The guys looked faux enthusiastic and gave him a nice round of applause but you could tell they were thinking "when is he going to end this performance?" You want feel for John but then realize he's about to travel to Hawaii to play golf and get paid. All in all, the show seemed awkward, a little staged and seemed to over-glorify JD's lifestyle change (he lost weight from surgery. There wasn't a single shot of a gym). You know at some point Daly could do something stupid and that is what may keep people watching.

  1. You mean there wasn't a segment on that night in Falmouth? I need to know...was he just at Woodies or was he out at, like, Moose Crossing? Blue Island? There weren't that many places to get drunk back in the day. Gazebo lot? Saigon?

  2. No Falmouth segment. No real confirmation on where he started off...He may have been at Woodies b/c thats where the tourney was, but I'd bet he ripped it up at Moose Crossing and then drove off somewhere. There are also confirmed reports of him drilling golf balls into the water somewhere in Yarmouth but that may have been a separate trip for him.
