Man, it's easy to hate NBC right now. I was sure though that they wouldn't blow a chance to win viewers back with their Olympics coverage. Well I stand corrected. NBC is like the New Jersey Nets in that it seems to WANT to lose. Lose in the ratings, lose viewers and lose any chance at winning them back.
So here's the reason for my rant: The Men's downhill, the most exciting Alpine skiing event in the Olympics took place today at 1:30 p.m. EST. NBC elected to air it during prime time (fair enough - it is a week day) but when they did show it they boiled the entire competition down to 30 minutes of air time. This included 10 minutes of commercials and what seemed like an eternity of inane commentary from Bob Costas and that old football player who kind of stills looks like Wooderson (thanks Pipes) and can't seem to place his thimble-full of talent.
WHY?! Why air 4 hours of snowboard cross and cross-country skiing this afternoon to only give us 30 minutes of downhill coverage? It was almost not even worth watching...especially when the internet was full of coverage of the race and there was almost no way to avoid spoiling the results prior.
So once again, boo NBC. I expect little from the network, but this is just awful.
