Phil's take: Passion Pit at the House of Blues Boston

I'm biased, I know that. I thought Manners (their LP released last year) was brilliant, I had been listening to them all summer and associate them with a couple of the best weekends/weeks of my life...not kidding.

That said, I thought the show was great. Passion Pit's catalog is still limited but they played everything they had and the couple of new tracks they dropped were high energy and really cool. Can't wait for that next album.

What was evident though was that they are on the steep section of the bell curve of how hot a band is. This time last year, they were playing the Great Scott in Allston which, if you've never been there, is TINY. So now, about a year later, they're selling out the HoB with an opening act. Big year for those guys, they deserve it too. I'm only worried about expectations for them at this point. Their next album will get a lot of profile and I hope they can maintain their trajectory.

My only complaint was about the venue itself. The HoB is nice in that it's located in a great spot, is new inside and has good sound, but it was a total clusterf**k trying to leave and sort of seemed chaotic inside. I probably wouldn't go to another show there if I didn't have balcony seats.

All in all, it was right on and their Cranberries cover as the second song of the encore was a great surprise and I'm sure confused the s**t out of the 18-19 year olds in the crowd.

  3. agreed on HoB clusterfuckness...next time try and get on LiveNation early for VIP tix up on the 3rd floor...if they are available they're usually only $10 extra and have awesome views, two bars, high top tables, and plenty of room.
