Three of the four major labels are launching "Vevo," dubbed the 'Hulu for music videos.'
Here's some info from All Things Digital:
Vevo, the “Hulu for music videos” site that launches tomorrow, just got a bit bigger: In addition to clips from owners Sony (SNE) and Universal Music Group, the site will also offer EMI Music Group’s videos.
The release I’ve reprinted below doesn’t spell this out, but I’m told that EMI is only licensing its videos to the venture and isn’t joining as an equity partnership; it will get an advance against revenue up front.
Now...YouTube is certainly a great place to find music videos, live concert footage and interviews but you also have to sift through some junk too. Like Hulu, I'm hoping Vevo will have a nice interface, be easy to use, and while its content will be mainstream, the quality will be good and all videos will be able to be embedded. I'm doubting that I'll spend a ton of time on Vevo because of the limitations in the content available, but I do think this is a great step.
